A Frugal Shopping Guide For Outfitting Your First Kitchen

Posted on: 3 April 2019

Whether you are moving out of your parent's house into your first apartment or moving across the country without any of your belongings, there is absolutely no need to spend a lot of money setting up your new home's kitchen. In fact, using the suggestions below you can outfit your kitchen for much less than you might imagine:

Ask Friends and Family if They Have Any Kitchen Items to Sell

Most people's kitchen cabinets are overflowing with small appliances and other kitchenware they never get around to using. Sure, that's rice cooker was a great deal, but since it's easier to cook frozen rice in the microwave it never gets used.

Before you head out to purchase kitchenware for your new kitchen, ask around to see if any friends or relatives have any items they would be willing to sell to you. Often, if you offer to purchase things, people will happily donate items to you just to clear out some space in their cabinets without having to drive to a donation center.

Don't Dismiss Shopping at a Local Thrift Store for Discount Small Kitchen Appliances and Utensils

Even if you can't stand the idea of wearing clothing previously worn by another person, don't dismiss shopping for discount kitchenware at your local thrift stores just because the items may have been used.

Think about your last visit to a restaurant. Did you bring along your own utensils to eat off of or your own frying pan to cook the food with? Of course not. So, what's the difference between using those things at a restaurant and buying used kitchen items for use in your own home?

Sure, it's nice to purchase new kitchenware, but when you have a very small budget or aren't really sure what items you will need, shopping at a thrift store is a great way to save a lot of money. As an added bonus, people often receive unique small appliances and expensive cookware as gifts and never use them. At some point, they get tired of the clutter and end up donating these like-new items. This gives you the opportunity to purchase higher quality items for a steep discount.

Buy High-Quality Discount Kitchenware at a Restaurant Supply Store

Every major city in America has a restaurant supply store. These stores sell all of the pots, pans, and everything else restaurants need to serve food to their customers. Not only are the items they sell high-quality and made to last for years, but they are also typically a lot less expensive than purchasing lesser quality items at consumer-based stores. Most restaurant supply stores also sell their products to the public and will be happy for your business.
